SALARY: $46,754.86 ($22.47/hourly)SUMMARY :This is telecommunications work in assessing emergency calls and dispatching public safety and other emergency services to the public with care, speed and dispatch . Work also involves monitoring radios, logging in calls, tracking the status and location of dispatched personnel, and conducting queries and data entry work in the GCIC computer system . Duties involve shift work and possible overtime . This classification may have acting supervisory responsibilities over a shift in the absence of a shift supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Duties include but are not limited to:- Receiv ing telephone calls and determining the nature of the emergency, the location of the incident and other information necessary for dispatching emergency services
- Dispatching fire, police, sheriff, emergency medical services , and other personnel an d equipment to respond to calls
- Providing victims and others CPR instructions and other medical emergency assistance by telephone until responding unit arrives
- Perf orming other duties as assigned

- High school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate ( GED )
- Eighteen months professional related work experience as a Communications Operator I or equivalent
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- M ust be 18 years of age or older
Must have no record of any felony conviction . ( Successful completion of a background check, physical and drug screen, fingerprinting, and other procedures used by police agencies to investigate the background and working history of prospective employees; must sign appropriate forms needed for police a gency to investigate background )
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia D river’s L icense (Class C) and a s atisfactory m otor v ehicle r ecord (MVR) if assigned job duties requiring the use of a vehicle
- Certification as a Commu nications Officer with P .O.S.T.; maintain certification
- Certification as an Emer gency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) ; maintain certification
- Certification in CPR ; maintain certification
Certification as a Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) terminal o perator; maintain certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS , AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, codes, radio signals, and/or materials as they relate to assignment
- Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable federal and state, laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to assignment
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar
- Knowledge of basic business mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Knowledge of first aid and CPR
- Skill in coordinating and resolving daily operational and administrative problems and issues effectively with subordinate employees
- Skill in transcribing tapes if required by assignment
- Ability to communicate and interact clearly and effectively with all those contacted in the course of work in a professional manner, both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and cordial working relationships
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally and to exercise discretion in performing assigned job duties; inability to maintain confidentiality will be grounds for dismissal
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions within policy guidelines by exercising good judgment and intelligent situation-assessment
- Ability to obtain information through oral interviews and interrogations
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or direct supervision
