Salary: $117.8232 Per Diem, No Benefits

SUMMARY: This is work performed to provide security of the courts to include judges, witnesses, jurors, prisoners, and the general public. This classification has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining security in and around holding cells by checking facilities and taking head counts of inmates
  • Maintaining the security of the courtroom and related areas
  • Inspecting the courtroom for any concealed weapons
  • Maintaining order and appropriate behavior in the courtroom
  • Providing information, parking passes, etc., to jurors
  • Providing security and proper placement for court files
  • Following instructions of presiding judge
  • Maintaining contact with the general public, court officials, and other county officials in the performance of assigned activities
  • Performing other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate (GED)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have no felony convictions within the past 10 years

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, codes, radio signals, and/or materials as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable federal and state, laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar
  • Knowledge of court systems, rules, practices, and procedures; legal terminology, documents, regulations, and state laws related to assigned court
  • Knowledge of the Douglas County court system
  • Knowledge of law enforcement and criminal investigation procedures, practices and operations
  • Knowledge of legal processes and terminology if required by assignment
  • Knowledge of the nature and risks of public safety
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation, of all department equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of modern court/office practices, methods, and equipment
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement and corrections principles, practices, procedures, techniques, and equipment
  • Knowledge of specialized software, machinery, materials, terminology, and/or forms essential to the assignment
  • Skill in creating, maintaining, and organizing accurate, detailed, and complete in accordance with standard record-keeping procedures
  • Skill in effective inter-personal and public relations; excellent oral and written communication skills to satisfactorily resolve conflicts and issues, and to explain established policies and procedures to employees and the general public
  • Skill in exercising discretion in determining data classification and in referencing such analysis, to establish standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships
  • Skill in exercising tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues and situations
  • Skill in handling and operating all assigned equipment, tools, and/or vehicles in a safe and proficient manner
