SUMMARY : This is clerical work in assisting the public in obtaining state vehicle tags and title registrations, in collecting ad valorem taxes on vehicles or collection of property taxes. Work, which involves processing applications, performing data-entry work and serving as cashier, requires heavy public contact. This position works under the general supervision of the Tag/Tax Supervisor

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Answering routine questions from the public in person, by mail, and by telephone concerning all automobiles, trucks, and mobile home tags, decals, and title transfers or county property taxes
  • Processing property tax payments or applications of annual vehicle tags and decals for county residents:
    • Verifying owner, vehicle, tax code, and address information on account
    • Determining proper weight or category of vehicle
    • Calculating taxes and fees on computers
    • Collecting monies and issuing receipts, tag and decal
  • Performing data-entry work on computer in processing transactions, verifying information, and collecting fees and taxes
  • Assisting in collating, stuffing, and mailing annual vehicle tag renewals/property tax notices to county residents
  • Assisting in opening and processing in-coming mail for vehicle tag and title applications/property tax payments
  • Preparing applications for vehicle original and replacement titles; typing State Motor Vehicle Division forms and affidavits to supplement title application, or the Tax Department, Homestead exemption applications
  • Issuing mobile home permits by checking for outstanding tax obligations, collecting current and/or outstanding taxes, and processing permit applications
  • May organize and update Mobile Home Digest; may print and mail mobile home tax bills; may issue citations and serve summons to delinquent mobile homeowners; may appear in court on summons with delinquent taxes
  • May process applications and issue tags and titles for vehicles owned by automotive dealers, trucking companies, and other businesses
  • Referencing state motor vehicle manuals, county ordinances and policies, tax and fee tables in processing applications, and answering questions from the public
  • Completing legal documents for tags and titles/homestead exemption applications
  • Counting vehicle tags and decals and mobile home decals for inventory control
  • Assisting in reconciling collected monies against recorded receipts on a daily basis
  • Training new employees in learning job requirements and procedures of Tax-Tag Agent
  • Performing other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate (GED)
  • Minimum of one-year professional office experience with a focus on advanced clerical and customer service skills
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Must be able to type 45 WPM
  • Title /or Drives experience preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) if assigned job duties requiring the use of a vehicle

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, codes, and/or materials as they relate to assignment

Salary : $16.4588 – $18.00 hourly, plus a comprehensive benefits package
