SALARY: $63,557.32 ($30.55/hourly)
SUMMARY :The purpose of this classification is to assist the Assistant Director and Director in planning, organizing activities, and promoting Departmental programs. Including administrative tasks to oversee the operations and ensure the safety of all individuals utilizing Douglas County Parks and Recreation facilities. Enforce park rules and provides recommendations for updates or changes to existing procedures in the interest of safety. The incumbent p erforms general administrative and supervisory tasks including budget management, balancing funds, preparing reports, and supervising and evaluating personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Duties include but are not limited to:- Supervis ing , direct ing , and evaluat ing assigned staff; process ing employee concerns and problems; direct ing work, counsel ing and disciplin ing staff; complet ing employee performance appraisals
- Assist ing with managing and directing , either personally or through subordinate supervisors, daily departmental activities; assign ing projects and establish ing project schedules and deadlines
- Monitor ing and evaluat ing all departmental programs and activities; monitor ing the daily operati ons of each division or section
- Coordinat ing budget requests from subordinate coordinators and other staff ; a pprov ing or disapprov ing requests based on justification; m onitor ing d epartmental revenue accoun ts
- Coordinat ing accreditation efforts and / or award nominations for the d epartment
- Serv ing as liaison between the Parks and Recreation d epartment , civic organizations , and outside agencies in the coordinatio n of services for the community
- Perf orming other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major field of study in a related discipline
- Preferred – d egree in Recreation, Sports Management , or Physical Education
- Seven years professional related work experience in or ganized recreational programs or services
- Minimum five year s of which w ere performed in a supervisory or administrative capacity
- Demonstrated budgetary and fiscal management
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Ability and willingness to drive a county vehicle
- Must meet all eligibility requirements established by the Board of Commissioners
Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol screening as directed
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Possess and maintain a valid Georgia D river’s L icense (Class C) and a s atisfactory m otor v ehicle r ecord (MVR)
- American Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED certified, or certification within six months of employment
Other duty-specific certifications may be required during employment to satisfy specific assigned duties and responsibilities

- Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, and materials as they relate to assignment
- Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable state, federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to assignment
- Knowledge of administrative principles and practices; employee supervision; payroll; purchasing
- Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar
- Ability to communicate and explain the theory and philosophy of recreation to others
- Ability to remain composed, professional, and pleasant in a stressful, fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions or direct supervision

- Work requires driving; operation of vehicle may be under potentially hazardous conditions involving road construction, inclement weather, traffic hazards, exposure to fumes and noise
